Product Description
What is the manganese content of high-manganese steel?
The manganese content of high-manganese steel typically ranges from 11% to 18%, depending on its application and performance requirements. The following are the main classifications and typical compositions:
General-purpose high-manganese steel
Manganese content: 10%–15%
Carbon content: 0.90%–1.50% (wear-resistant steel typically ≥1.0%)
Typical grades include ZGMn13, with manganese content of 11%–14% and carbon content of 1.0%–1.4%
Special-purpose high-manganese steel
Some high-impact components may use variants with higher manganese content (e.g., 15%–18%) to balance toughness and wear resistance.
Note that when manganese content exceeds 15%, smelting difficulty significantly increases, and defects such as segregation may occur. The commonly used ZGMn13 series grades in China all fall within the 11%–14% manganese content range and are optimized through water quenching treatment.
