The remanufacturing and repair process of bucket teeth

The following is the standard process and technical key points for the remanufacturing and repair of bucket teeth in construction machinery:


I. Pretreatment stage ‌

Old parts assessment and clearance ‌

Crack detection ‌ : Penetrant testing for cracks at the tooth tip/root, with a length ≤ 1/3 of the tooth width and not penetrating, can be repaired.

Surface treatment ‌ : Sandblast to remove the rust layer to Sa2.5 grade (roughness Ra≤12.5μm), and for stubborn sand-adhering areas, soak and rinse with hydrofluoric acid;

Wear determination ‌ : Surfacing repair is applicable when the remaining tooth height is ≥60%; otherwise, it is scrapped.

Ii. Core Restoration Process ‌


Apical strengthening restoration ‌


Surfacing process ‌ :

Preheat the substrate to above 100℃ and overlay layer by layer with J507 electrodes (GB/T 5117).

Immediately hammer to release stress after each layer is welded. The interlayer temperature should be controlled at no more than 200℃.

Wear-resistant plate reinforcement ‌ : the front part of the tooth tip is attached with a 30mm wear-resistant steel plate, and both ends are fully welded and fixed.


Structural defect repair ‌


Crack treatment ‌ :

Make a 60° V-shaped bevel and fill it with ER307 welding wire by argon arc welding.

Drill a Φ3mm anti-crack hole at the end of the crack.

Tooth root reconstruction ‌ : after grinding the worn groove, a tungsten carbide layer (hardness ≥60 HRC) is laser-fused.

Iii. Post-processing and assembly ‌


Size restoration and finishing ‌


Forming grinding ‌ : restore tooth tip profile, transition fillet R≥0.4m;

Installation surface leveling ‌ : when the deformation is greater than 0.5mm, cold leveling with a hydraulic jack is used.


Limit component regeneration ‌


Gasket repair ‌ : Clamp the limit gasket with grooved pliers and hammer to reduce the gap until it fits.


Pin shaft assembly ‌ : Press the repair gasket into the tooth seat slot and hammer the pin shaft through the limit hole.

Iv. Quality Acceptance Criteria ‌

The indicator ‌ ‌ requires ‌ ‌ detection method ‌

The hardness of the surfacing layer is ≥55 HRC, and the Leeb hardness tester is used for multi-point measurement

Metallographic section analysis of porosity < 2% (volume ratio)

A 30kN tensile test was conducted to ensure that the stability pin shaft was not loose after hammering


Do not repair the scene ‌ :


The fillet R at the tooth root is less than 0.2m or there are reticular cracks.

The hardened layer of the substrate has completely fallen off (hardness < 40 HRC).
